General Product Safety Directive 2001/95/EC (GPSD)

General Product Safety Directive 2001/95/ЕС (GPSD) is applied in the absence of specific European rules (not governed by the special legislation of the European Union), concerning certain categories of safety products. Directive 2001/95/EC is applied without prejudice to the provisions laid down in Directive 85/374/EEC on the liability for defective products.

GPSD is not a New Approach Directive, since this EU Directive does not contain fundamental safety requirements and does not stipulate for application of the CE mark on products. The main objective of Directive 2001/95 is to ensure the safety of products placed on the market, and it contains general requirements for product safety    From 13 December 2024, the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) 2023/988 will apply.
