ATEX equipment 2014/34/ЕС directive Equipment intended for use in explosive atmosphere.
Directive 2014/34/ЕС, also called ATEX 114, is one of the EU statutory instruments, stipulating basic safety requirements. These requirements relate to the development and manufacture of products that can be placed on the Union market and put into operation when they can not constitute a threat to the environment (people, pets or property) subject to correct installation, maintenance and proper use.
The ATEX Directive is relevant to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The Directive also applies to safety, control and regulation equipment intended for use outside explosive atmospheres, which is necessary or conducive to safe operation of explosive equipment and systems.
The ATEX 114 Directive does not apply to:
medical devices,
protective equipment and systems in which explosive hazards arise solely due to presence of explosives or chemically unstable substances,
household and non-commercial appliances where a potentially explosive atmosphere can be rare, solely as a result of accidental leakage of gaseous fuel,
individual protective means,
sea-borne crafts and floating offshore units, including devices on board,
vehicles and their trailers intended solely for passenger air, road, railway or water transport.
products developed and manufactured for use by the armed forces or the police and other services whose mission is enforcement of laws and order.
The general principle adopted in the ATEX 114 Directive is to ensure that equipment and protective systems are designed in accordance with the principles of integrated explosion protection.
Manufacturer of the product covered by the Directive 2014/34/EC shall identify the hazard, assess the risks associated with installation, use and maintenance of the product, take measures to eliminate or reduce the risk, develop and post information about the use of the product at all stages of its “life” (start-up, stop, maintenance, repair), taking into account the skills of persons who can perform specific tasks.
